Mayan pilgrims to a lively, cosmopolitan city with the highest urban
growth in the country.

In this city, activities and imagination go hand in hand: the coast lends
itself to all kinds of water sports.
There are diving facilities both
inland and in the sea, the deep waters separating it from Cozumel are idea
for sport fishing, the jungle invites you to explore its lush, magical
world while trips to nearby archaeological sites are extremely gratifying.
The evening offers a number of options such as places to dance and shake
off the insomnia caused by Caribbean nights, popular fiestas on the
beaches and lively bars.

Vista Caribe Hotel, Playa del Carmen, Q. Roo. Mexico
Playa is the regional capital. It is a bustling beach town
filled with excitement and unique experiences.
The main street is called Quinta Avenida,
or 5th Avenue.
Sometimes it's just called La Quinta. It is a pedestrian
walkway and a common point of reference. Avenues, avenida in
Spanish, run parallel to the beach.
They are given numbers in increments
of five, 5th Ave, 10th Ave, etc. Streets, calles, are perpendicular
to the coast and they have even numbers north of Juarez and odd numbers to
the south.
Hotel
Prisma Caribe, Playa del Carmen Q. Roo. Mexico
A walk down 5th Avenue, the
local strip, and you can pet wild lions, play with a boa constrictor, sit
on a curb and watch a Mariachi band perform for one of the local
restaurant cafes.
You can enter one of the many beautiful restaurants for
a healthy delicious sampling of Mexican or international cuisine.
There are numerous jewelry stores and arts and crafts
stores where many great deals can be had if you know how to bargain.
The
cruise ships dock here on Tuesdays and Thursdays and the town fills up
with new faces for a day.

The beaches at Playa are excellent and perfect for
children. There is not that much coral so the snorkeling is not good here.
However you can catch the ferry to Cozumel where the snorkeling and diving
is world famous.
Lifeguards are on duty on the main Playa beach. If you
wish to snorkel there are some coral reefs just north of Ave.
Contituyentes.
Playa del
Carmen is also an ideal spot for visiting one of the most beautiful parks
in Mexico: Xcaret, which is also the place where ferries set off to the
Island of Cozumel.
It is also near the natural well area of Puerto
Aventuras while the largest natural aquarium in the world, Xel-Há, is just
forty-five minutes away.

Eclipse, Playa del Carmen Q.
Roo México
The pace of life in Playa del Carmen varies considerably.
At times it
reflects the gentle waves that bathe its shores with their warm, white
sands, and at others, it mirrors the rhythm of Quinta Avenida, with its
improvised artists, and dozens of languages blended into a single murmur. Everything about Playa is surprising.
Hotel Balam nah Center,
Playa del Carmen Q. Roo México
Grand hotels and resorts rub
shoulders with small, traditional hostels, while dozens of snack-bars and
cafés jockey for space with elegant, first-class restaurants.
Life in
Playa del Carmen is characterized by variety and diversity. It is now the second most
important tourist destination in the Mexican Caribbean
Playa del Carmen lies halfway between Cancún and Tulúm on a coastal strip
that combines jungle, mangrove swamps and white sandy beaches.
It is
characterized by its diversity; the porous soil of the Peninsula creates a
variety of features such as natural wells surrounded by jungle, bays where
underground rivers blend with the sea and extensive mangrove swamps.
Villa del Mar Hotel, Playa del Carmen Q. Roo. México
For those who want to shop, you'll find some
of the internationally known fashion stores, as well as a big selection of
local shops with everything from Cuban cigars and handicrafts, to sports
equipment and services for the tourist. Internet cafes are plentiful and
makes keeping in touch easy. It's all here within walking distance of your
hotel.
There is plenty to do around Playa del Carmen as well. The ferry to
Cozumel island is here, with scheduled trips there and back several times
a day. You'll also be close to the Eco-Parks in the area, several of
Mexico's famous archaeological sites can be reached from here, and for the
more adventurous there is great SCUBA diving offshore or in one of the
nearby Cenotes, the underground water filled caverns.
