Reservations On LineGarrafon, aquatic and recreational natural park located in Punta Sur in Isla Mujeres.

The island's southernmost tip, is known for its lovely reefs and spectacular cliffs (highest elevation in the Yucatan and home to an ancient Maya temple). These cliffs and their vantage points offer dazzling views of the island.

The Garrafón Park organization is very aware of the need to protect our environment. We have established a series of conservation programs and constantly promote efforts to make people aware of the need to conserve natural resources.

The park is actively involved in the preservation of local plant and wildlife species through efforts to minimize human impact on their habitats.  We constantly monitor reef activity keeping tabs on the health and development of its inhabitants.  The information we collect is added to a continually updated databank of photographic records used to catalog life-forms on the reef.  We’re proud to say that with our help the reef’s biodiversity is growing.

Our conservation effort also takes in resident and migratory bird species. We have built feeding facilities for them and take care to use only environmentally friendly products. Care is also taken to control noise levels, especially during nesting season.

Our gardening team not only maintains the park’s outdoor appearance, they also actively protect its native plants.  Special care is taken to avoid disturbing their natural cycles and in making sure that species used by birds for feeding and nesting are always available.  The park has its own nursery whose plants are used in reforestation projects.Reservations On Line

ACTIVITIES:

Snorkeling: Snuba:
one of the favorite park activities. If you are not familiar with snorkeling, our experienced aqua guides can quickly teach you the basics and take you on a tour to some of the most wonderful corners of the reef. You don’t even have to know how to swim, just put on a life jacket and with the help of your fins mask and a breathing tube you can safely glide along looking at all the fish. This is a relatively new sport that combines scuba and snorkeling.  Air is supplied  underwater by means of a flexible tube connected to a plastic bag enabling swimmers to enjoy the underwater experience for longer periods of time without air tanks. All our guides are certified dive masters. They swim with you at all times while you experience the incomparable sensation of near weightlessness as you move along freely underwater surrounded by an infinity of colorful tropical fish.
Seatrek: Tyrolean Rappelling:
Just like taking an underwater stroll!  Compressed air is fed into a diving helmet allowing you to breathe and walk freely along the ocean floor within a distance of 25 feet and at a maximum depth of 13 feet. Experience the thrilling sensation of flying over Isla Mujeres’s cliffs. Unique in the Cancun area. adapted for recreational purposes and is part of the Garrafón Park adventure. Takeoff is from the top of 42 foot tower built on the highest part of the Park which gives a combined vertical height of almost 100 feet above sea level.
Kayaks: The Garden of hammocks:
Garrafón Park also offers kayaks to its visitors.  We have single and two- passenger kayaks on which you can explore the reef from above safely inside park limits.  Of course this activity is always subject to ocean conditions. Relax on handmade white silk hammocks dangling between tall palm trees surrounded by lush vegetation. Or if you prefer, stretch out on a lounger or on a towel in the sun to recharge your body and soul.

CULTURAL

Tour of the South Point: Sculptured Spaces:
Punta Sur can be reached using a scenic route called the Cheneques Trail. You can also catch the Garrafón Park bus to Punta Sur, one of our guides will describe the area’s attractions on the way. The south point is a massive natural rock formation that rises up from the reef offering a marvelous view of the Caribbean Ocean. From here visitors can also look through the Cave of the Blue Eye, a rock formation pierced by erosion where observers can focus on the pounding force of the open sea and the coral filled waters of the Bay at the same time. Garrafón Park’s Punta Sur recently hosted the First International Sculpture Exhibition in which artists from around the world and the Sebastian Foundation donated examples of their work to Isla Mujeres. The exhibition took place on Dec. 8, 2001 with distinguished sculptors such as Jose Luis Cuevas and the master himself, Sebastian mingled with tourists, local politicians and prominent members of the community including the park’s director Francisco Córdova.
Mayan Temple to Ixchel: Tour of Isla Mujeres:
Goddess I of the codices, she is said to be Goddess of the Moon, Wife of the Sun and a High Deity of Reproduction. Ixchel was the greatest Mayan goddess, her numeric and symbolic ascendancy refers to a variety of sacred nuclei in terrestrial and celestial orders.  Visitors to Garrafón Park can also enjoy a tour to the island’s center. Our Garrafón Cruise leaves from the main pier at 1:45 PM and takes you to the heart of Isla Mujeres where you can walk around and explore a colorful folkloric village for about an hour before it’s time to get back the park for more activities. The charm and friendliness of the islanders together with the beautiful surroundings  will convince you that this is one of the most attractive places in Quintana Roo.
